Podcasts 101

Hang on, let’s back up a second. If you are confused and aren’t quite sure what a podcast is, let’s start there. A podcast is an audio file that is usually set up in a series. It is much like a talk-radio station or an audiobook, where you can listen to people speak about different topics. They are absolutely free! You can find them on various apps and sites such as Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

Podcast Listening Tips

  • Master the art of multitasking by listening to podcasts while you drive, workout, or clean your home
  • For a better podcast experience, try listening with Bluetooth headphones (these are a steal!)
  • Use a “My Episodes” playlist to keep an ongoing list of episodes you want to listen to
  • Challenge yourself to listen to a new podcast each month to broaden your horizons
  • Alternate listening to Audiobooks with podcasts to keep things interesting (here is a list of the top books to read in your 20s!)

True Crime

  • My Favorite Murder: This is hands down my favorite podcast. It’s a true crime/comedy podcast… I know, might sounds like a strange mix but if you’re a true crime fanatic (like me), you will LOVE this podcast! It is so entertaining and perfect to distract you from your everyday worries. It is so great I have already gotten all my friends hooked too! • Serial: If you’re into true crime, chances are you’ve already listened to Serial. But in that off-chance you haven’t, do yourself a favor and get on it! Their first season is truly spectacular (my favorite out of the three). But they are all good! Each season, Sarah Koenig and her team put together a fantastic production. I don’t want to spoil it for you so I’ll be a bit vague… the first season is about an old murder case, the second is about a military man and what happened to him after he walked off his base in the middle east, and the third is about America’s justice system.
